Cans Struggle at Nairn

Sunday March 12th 2017

Nairn County 5  Forres Mechanics 1

This was a sore one for the Cans.  With only 11 players available, the lads began brightly but struggled as legs wearied in midfield.  3-0 down at half time, they staged a mini-comeback in the final quarter, taking advantage of the steady breeze blowing down the lumpy Nairn Academy pitch. Strong running forced the home side into a series of fouls just outside the box and from one of these Centre-back Connor McCartney lashed home the well flighted Sean Douglas free kick. The Cans continued to press till the final whistle but could not add to their tally.

Cans Fightback Falls Short at Death

March 5th

Mechanics U13  2 - 3  Fort William U13

In an entertaining game at Sanquhar, the Cans' babes hit the post in the opening period, gave Fort William a three goal start after an hour and then almost clawed back the deficit in a pulsating final fifteen minute spell.

The Forres' goals were contrasting efforts, both of high quality and came from Sean Melloy and Lee Rigby.  The first came about from the forward's alertness as he pounced on some slack work in the Fort defence, drew the keeper and cooly slotted home.  The second was from a well flighted free kick with the centre back timing his run perfectly across keeper and defence to finish with a delightful flick of his right boot. The youngsters also had a strong claim for a penalty denied in a frantic end to the game.

There were high quality performances all round with Jack Miller in midfield and full backs Toby Clark and Callum McCreadie prominent.

Classy Cans Go Nap Against Ullapool

Forres Mechanics  5  Ullapool United  1

The Cans youngsters put five past stuffy West Coast opponents in this February 26th game at Sanquhar.

There were fine performances all around the team much to the delight of a substantial home support.  Fielding a number of primary age players, the U13s always looked in command and pulled off some impressive passing play on a pitch which proved difficult at times for both teams. The scoring was opened by Callum McCreadie and there were doubles for Kyle Hay and Logan De Oliveira in a satisfying win which pleased coaches Charlie Watt and Allan Frisken.

Fun Day at Mosset Park

Whilst the Big Team was going down bravely in the Scottish Cup at Stenhousemuir, Cans' stars of the future were showing off their skills at Mosset Park.  The youngsters demonstrated their technique using new equipment and showed off their new training kit - all sponsored by Tesco Forres.  The lads (ably supported by parents) then tucked into some healthy options provided by the Tesco Food Hall.  A raffle raised over £200 for Youth Development funds.
