Forres Mechanics are thrilled to add David Mackay to manager Steven MacDonald’s management team. An ex-professional, David adds plenty of experience and knowledge of Northeast football and will quickly become a valuable asset for The Cans.
David has had a distinguished career within football in the area, he was full-time with Ross County back in the 90s with nearly 200 appearances overall for the club and was known for being a top defender in his day. Playing throughout the majority of the leagues in Scotland, David has also made appearances for Elgin, Clach and Deveronvale.
After his playing career ended, David successfully transitioned into management. He managed an Inverness Clachnacuddin side successfully under difficult circumstances before turning his attention to scouting and recruitment.
`
David already enjoys a close relationship with the manager; the two played together in the Scottish league at Elgin, and both won the Highland league title with Clach in 2003/04. Mackay said about taking a place in the dugout:
“Steven asked me several times to come in, but the timing was never right, so instead, I worked behind the scenes on recruitment and scouting as and when was needed.”
David is keen to hit the ground running, the last few years, he has engrossed himself in football across the area, taking in games from across the Highland League to the North Caledonian League. We hope to draw on his extensive knowledge of players in the area to build upon an already exciting, young and attacking Forres side.
Talking about what he hopes to bring, David added:
“I’m hoping to bring my experiences of my playing career and in management to help the players as individuals and the team improve.”
Manager MacDonald expressed his delight in finally getting Mackay on board:
“David has been a massive help working with me since I took over the job, but various other commitments have prevented him from joining Forres officially. David already knows so much about the club and the players, so hopefully, that will make it easier for him joining us.”
He added:
“I’m obviously delighted David can join us in person now with his huge experience in the game. Mark Holmes has been great since he joined us, and he knows David well, so I’m looking forward to us all working together.”
Make sure to show David the famous Cans support as he takes his place in the dugout for the first time this Saturday when we travel to Rothes.
